I received the first Jackie Robinson academic

Indians, and while I was there I met Mr. Bob Feller who told me stories of
facing Jackie. |

Why I chose Delt |
I chose Delt because of

comfortable and meet a wide range of personalities that I feel I would have
missed if I had not decided to join. |
|
Favorite Delt memory so far |
My favorite Delt story
up to this point took place during this past fall's president's dinner, our
speaker (who I’m not sure of his ) spoke to us about a time in American
history, which I’m sure many of us wish we could forget, he spoke about
racism and segregation and how delta Tau delta here at Ohio Wesleyan helped
to shape the face of American sports as we know them today. He spoke of
brother Branch Rickey, the man directly responsible for breaking the color
barrier of league baseball, and bringing Jackie Robinson to the Los Angeles
Dodgers. It would be enough to say that brother Rickey’s opinion was shaped
from his years here at OWU, but it's even more than that, ( ) spoke of
brother Rickey numerous times going to the Delt house, while he was on
campus for trustee meetings, and bouncing the idea of bringing a man of
color into America’s pastime. Those talks, to me are historical, how many
other people can say that their house was influential in changing America’s
view of African Americans? I feel honored and proud to say that I am part of
the same brotherhood as Mr. Branch Rickey. |

|
Why I chose Delt |
I went to almost all of
the fraternities at OWU as a freshman, but only felt one real connection
with the active members. There was more than the partying and free events.
There was a special magic at one house, something that I desperately wanted
to be a part of. That fraternity was, of course, Delt. It's a tradition I've
tried to carry on with upstanding member of each freshman class, doing my
best to hand pick the most deserving men, with hopes of fostering a
relationship that would one day culminate in the pledge process. |
|
Favorite Delt memory so far |
This being public
domain, I suppose I should probably keep it clean. I would have to say the
Bow Out of Pat Benson, Arjun Bakshi, and Andy Boone was one of the most
memorable nights of my life. All forty of us packed into the TV room on the
first floor, and you could feel the magic and love in the air. Few times are
we given the opportunity to come together as a chapter in such a private,
intimate, and free-feeling setting, and the Bow Out ceremony is a prime
example of all the reasons to be a Delt. The lifelong friendship that we all
share is never made so apparent as at a Bow Out, and this one was more
special than most, as we were saying goodbye to three of our brothers
halfway through the year--a time which seems to most somewhat untimely.
Stories were shared, hearts poured out, and at least a few tears were shed.
It will be a night not easily forgotten by anyone in attendance. |
|
Other facts about me my Delt brothers should know |
Being a wrestler in high
school, and coming to a school without wrestling, I was in desperate need
for a new focus which would dominate my life. In the past, every single
decision I made, everything I did, was based on whether or not it would make
me a better wrestler. Now, at Ohio Wesleyan, it seems, more than anything
else, that everything I do is based on whether or not it will benefit my
brother Delts, or make me a better Delt. It has been an easy shift to make
with the help of my brothers, and has given me much needed direction and
focus in life. Without Delt, I have nothing. |
